Uniloc Corporation Pty Ltd (Uniloc) is the technology and innovation leader in electronic physical device recognition or "edge identity technology." As cloud computing becomes more widely adopted, Uniloc has recognized and is addressing the emerging and critical need for a method of securely identifying the connected "edge" to enable secure access control for online services and the privacy of data sent over public networks.
Core Technology: Physical Device Fingerprinting
The core technology driving Uniloc's innovation is physical device fingerprinting, a patented method of uniquely identifying any computing device - whether PC, mobile phone, network router or game console - using its naturally occurring, inherent physical characteristics in order to rule out every other digital device as a potential match. In fourteen years of real-world application, a duplicate device ID has never been created. Uniloc's seminal device locking patent (US 5,490,216) is the cornerstone of our IP portfolio with more than 100 related patents and patents pending.
Unique Edge IDs Enhance Security
With the identity of the physical edge uniquely established, it can be incorporated into licensing and authentication credentials used to secure the edges within the internet cloud. A secure and well- managed connected edge simply enables a safer online experience.
And although each device is identified as unique, the variety of connections to the internet typically resident on each device means that there will almost certainly be multiple, unique "connected edges" for each physical device, including VPN, VOIP clients, critical infrastructure (CI) logins, banking logins, corporate IT connections, and others.
Enabling a Trust Environment
Instead of focusing on locking out the unauthorized or even malicious unapproved user or "bad actor," a reliable edge identity enables network and web service administrators to register a device in a "white list," allowing access only to those devices authorized to connect and denying access to every other device on earth. When a device is used for fraudulent activity, it moves onto a "black list" for higher scrutiny or blocking all-together.
In order to theoretically impersonate an authorized user or deceive the connected service, a bad actor must be in possession of a previously registered device. While it is easy for a bad actor to requests thousands of online identities, sourcing and gaining access to machines not blacklisted becomes a daunting proposition.
Three Uniloc Edge Identity Solutions
Uniloc has three proven solutions in use by many organizations today:
- SoftAnchor to secure the software-delivery edge
- WebAnchor to secure the web-service edge
- NetAnchor to secure the private edge for CI and private networks.
Collaborate with Us
Uniloc is aligned to drive our technology and IP through co-development and licensing deals making use of our edge identity technology framework. Through a coordinated channel effort among the various stakeholders, the Uniloc business development team engages our SWAT team (strategy, architecture, development) to establish a solution approach supporting providers of the connected edge while providing protection and market differentiation via our extensive intellectual property portfolio.
