NetAnchor Secures Valuable Assets and Systems in Critical Infrastructure Industries Including Water, Oil and Gas, Power and Transportation

IRVINE, Calif. - May 11, 2009 - Uniloc USA, Inc., the leader in device-based authentication solutions, today announced the availability of NetAnchorTM, a unique solution designed specifically to control access to systems and information particularly in industries designated as critical infrastructure, including water, power, oil and gas, chemicals and transportation.

Organizations and industries designated as critical infrastructure require security solutions that prevent the disruption of mission-critical applications and protect valued assets. The situation is compounded for these organizations due to industrial control systems that operate differently from sector to sector and from standard IT systems. NetAnchor provides strong authentication using the patented Uniloc Physical Device Recognition (PDR) technology to grant authorized access to systems and communications networks with minimal overhead.

"Organizations responsible for critical infrastructure are struggling to enable system access by key operational and vendor support personnel, while ensuring that strong controls are in place to prevent unauthorized access and comply with industry regulations, such as NERC," said Phil Schacter, vice president and director, security and risk management strategies at the Burton Group. "Combining traditional strong user authentication with hardware configuration-based device signatures provides higher assurance that only authorized personnel and devices are able to access high risk systems such as process control (SCADA) and critical infrastructure servers."

The implementation of the NetAnchor server software, security appliance and management software creates a trusted-device network in which only authenticated devices are allowed to communicate. Authorized client machines are identified using Uniloc's PDR technology to generate a device fingerprint based on the unique and inherent characteristics of each device. This fingerprint becomes an authentication credential that is locked to that device.

"The spread of advanced worms like Conficker, and the recent infiltration of the country's electricity grid are just two examples highlighting the risks associated with connecting critical networks like those in SCADA systems," said Brad Davis, CEO at Uniloc. "With the constantly increasing threat of cyber attacks and hacks, controlling access to critical assets is one of the most important challenges facing critical infrastructure industries today. NetAnchor provides an unrivaled, all-in-one solution to protect our nation's infrastructure."
