Increased Publisher Profitability Supported Through Unprecedented Software Usage and License Activation Metrics

Irvine, Calif. - July 17, 2008 - Uniloc USA Inc., the leader in device-based authentication, today announced SoftAnchorTM Insight, the industry's most powerful and accurate product usage and license reporting and analysis solution. SoftAnchor Insight provides actionable intelligence, driving greater publisher profitability by delivering aggregate metrics about actual software activation and usage. Uniloc is showcasing SoftAnchor Insight for the first time at the Software Industry Conference in Boston, July 17-19.

SoftAnchor Insight provides up-to-date statistics about actual license and software feature usage which delivers the most accurate results in the industry so that development, sales and licensing decisions can be made on facts and not assumptions. As part of offering insight and analysis for any software solution from consumer to the enterprise, SoftAnchor Insight gathers data anonymously about feature usage and hardware statistics. This provides unique and important facts about which features are used the most, which are used the least, which hardware platforms are most common, and which enhance the user experience while protecting the integrity of the software.

Key capabilities of SoftAnchor Insight include:

  • Industry's first reporting of real piracy and casual copying activity
  • Comprehensive license reporting including activation, compliance, subscriptions and trial status to understand your business and drive conversion
  • Robust feature usage data to drive segmentation, packaging and pricing decisions
  • Aggregate hardware statistics including installed component, configuration and hardware classes drive system requirements for future releases

"SoftAnchor Insight, as part of the SoftAnchor license management platform, provides us with unprecedented insight into how our software is being activated, deployed and utilized, which will allow us to accurately customize product design based on the aggregate of feedback from the system," said Shawn Shellenbarger, President and CEO, Maximum Software, makers of the popular PC Bug Doctor utility. "Initial findings have been impressive and promises to back our development team with real insight from the field."

"SoftAnchor Insight turns license management into a winning proposition for the forward-looking software publisher," said John Sherrod, Chief Marketing Officer for Uniloc. "As the most powerful business intelligence solution of its kind, it is the first to deliver execution-level detail for business-critical decision making."

About Uniloc

Uniloc USA is the technology leader in electronic Physical Device Recognition (PDR) for premier software usage auditing and insight. The core technology platform driving Uniloc innovation is physical device recognition, the company's patented method of uniquely identifying a user device, such as a PC or PDA, by the naturally occurring, inherent physical imperfections of that device, and then incorporating that physical device fingerprint into licenses or access credentials. Uniloc's technologies can identify devices with more comparable accuracy than human DNA. Uniloc is the inventor and holder of the seminal physical device locking patent (U.S. 5,490,216) and has 9 related patents pending. Magazine names Uniloc one of Top Emerging Vendors for 2008

Irvine, CA - July 9, 2008 - Uniloc USA Inc., the leader in device-based authentication, announced today that it has been named one of CRN (Computer Reseller News) Magazine's Emerging Vendors for NetAnchor CISTM, a powerful device-based Identity and Access Management (IAM) appliance for securing critical infrastructures against potentially catastrophic threats. This award acknowledges Uniloc's position as a leader in the exploding field of infrastructure security and the importance of NetAnchor CIS in the market.

As Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) networks increasingly interconnect with IT networks, security solutions are required to prevent cyber-security threats from entering these once isolated environments. NetAnchor CIS uses Physical Device Recognition (PDR) in addition to password-based authorization to ensure secure access to these critical infrastructure control systems. Because these networks are frequently central to critical infrastructure systems, such as electric generation and power grids, water systems, oil and gas production and distribution, and transportation systems, federal regulators have begun mandating cyber security requirements for them.

In fact, the The U.S. Department of Energy (DoE) states that "actions are required by all organizations, government or commercial, to secure their SCADA networks as part of the effort to adequately protect the nation's critical infrastructure." Online threats to SCADA systems, the DoE says, may pose as much risk for potentially significant failure within a power generation system as a physical attack.

And, as CRN Magazine pointed out in a recent article about its Emerging Vendor awards, vendors like Uniloc have recognized solution providers are looking to get ahead in the security segment. "These are the risk-takers, finding success as they move to gain market share from larger, established companies."

NetAnchor provides powerful shield against threats

NetAnchor CIS protects SCADA networks using Uniloc physical device recognition to restrict access to distributed field components to designated computers used by authorized personnel at the control center and in the field. With NetAnchor CIS, an authorized user must be on an authorized device to access control system networks. NetAnchor CIS provides notification and location of unauthorized connection attempts to the NetAnchor CIS Virtual Private Network (VPN) as well as attempted physical connection attempts to a NetAnchor CIS field security appliance. NetAnchor CIS also shields control systems against malicious code threats, ensuring against network vulnerabilities and allowing centralized field security monitoring.

We're thrilled that CRN has recognized the importance of NetAnchor CIS in the market with this award," said Jim White, VP, Infrastructure Security for Uniloc. "We believe it is critical, that organizations in the government, utility, transportation and large industry spaces protect their SCADA networks and industrial control systems with solutions proven to perform. Contractors and service providers in this area should view Uniloc as a key partner in this space."

About Uniloc Device-Based Authentication

Physical Device Recognition (PDR) is the core technology behind NetAnchor CIS and is based on the fundamental principle that no two digital devices are identical. The process of physical device recognition starts by generating a digital identity for a device, known as its physical device fingerprint. A physical device fingerprint is made up of a combination of machine characteristics and properties that are generated using a set of proprietary algorithms. The Uniloc Physical Device Fingerprinting algorithms allow the unique, reproducible identification of a device with an accuracy greater than 3.4 * 1038, allowing Uniloc to identify devices with more comparable accuracy than human DNA. When applied to NetAnchor CIS, the stage is set for this device-based authentication to stand as the leading access control solution for infrastructure security.
